Airbus' air taxis should take off in 2020 as a test

Airbus wants to put the first model of an air taxi on test flights to the test next year. The CityAirbus will be tested on a site near Manching near Ingolstadt. There is enough space for flights, said Airbus spokesman Gregor von Kursell on Tuesday. Previously, the Augsburger Allgemeine reported.

The CityAirbus has been successfully lifted in recent months several times in the helicopter plant in the Swabian Donauwörth, said von Kursell. But it was only about ground-level tests, in which the passenger drone was roped. In Donauwörth the machine could not fly freely because of the adjacent city, explained the Airbus spokesman.

The electric aircraft has eight rotors and can start and land vertically. It will transport up to four passengers on fixed routes without pilots and, for example, from city centers to airports. Airbus had introduced its air taxi model project in March of this year. Other manufacturers are currently working on the technology and want to bring in the next few years air taxis on the market.
