Android Phone Manufacturers Why Update Updates Late

Immediately after Google announced Android 9.0 Pie, the update to Pixel devices was launched on the same day for the Essential Phone. As a result, other vendors have had no excuse for delayed updates.

Under normal conditions, Android phones outside of Google's Pixel devices are waiting months for new versions; even devices that have been updated for longer than 1 year. Essential, however, sells the Essential Phone, which features flagships, at a relatively affordable price of $ 400, It was the first manufacturer to have the Android 9.0 update. Essential's pace is "Why can not other producers do it?"

The source code for new versions of Android is shared with producers along with beta releases. In other words, other producers can prepare the update in advance and directly present it to the user when the final version is introduced. Google's Treble project encourages all manufacturers to update faster.

To be fair, it may take some time for some vendors to integrate updates into their custom interfaces. Essential Phone does not have any special interface, it comes directly with pure Android. So it's normal for Essential to be faster, but many of the manufacturers are really late in updating it.

In this regard, we can take the Galaxy S9, Samsung's latest device. The S9, which hit the market in February 2018, is still using the Android 8.0 Oreo version, which was introduced in August 2017. With the launch of Android 9 Pie, two updates from Essential Phone are left behind; the S9;

The use of Android 8.1 Oreo in December 2017 is not yet available for Samsung Galaxy S9 devices. Unfortunately, this does not adequately address consumer expectations. Samsung, which has the ability to remove the phone from the 8.1 version, has chosen version 8.0.

Update makers of other manufacturers are not as innocuous as you can imagine. Even today, a very small company, Essential, can provide such fast updates, while other manufacturers must offer very fast update support, at least for top-end devices.

According to Google's statement, Android One, which is in addition to "Sony, Xiaomi, HMD Global (Nokia), Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus and Essential" devices, devices will get the Android P update this fall. There is currently no information available on other producers
