CloudBees has at the moment taking place online DevOps World 2020 announced some additions to its CI / CD product lines. The Software Delivery Management (SDM) will be supplemented by two new modules, which on the one hand facilitate the roll-out of new functions of an application and on the other hand make the productivity of the engineering measurable and optimizable. With continuous integration and delivery in mind, CloudBees also promises to make security an integral part of pipeline workflows.
More security right from the start
The new DevSecOps functions should help to integrate security into CI / CD processes as early as possible, for example to ensure seamless audits and compliance across the entire process chain. Among other things, CloudBees is now also offering a hardened version of its CI services that meet the highest security standards – including the requirements of the US Department of Defense (DoD). The more detailed configurable settings of the role-based access control (RBAC) as well as the extended options for backup, restore and recovery promise more security. In addition, CloudBees makes the open source tool Velero, which was previously only available for CI, also usable for continuous delivery.
The feature flags going back to the acquisition of Rollout are now fully available for CI / CD pipelines. The function gives software developers more control over the development and activation of new features in an application and decouples them from the standard releases and updates.
More flexibility and efficiency with SDM
The flexible feature management is now also integrated as a module in CloudBee’s SDM offering, so that the development department also has a more detailed insight into the product management and can have more influence on the functional scope of applications.
The second new SDM module also aims to provide more comprehensive information on the development process for decision makers in the company. It bundles all the relevant data that is required to make the productivity of software engineering processes measurable – from software development to quality assurance to delivery to the customer. The concept corresponds to the approach established by Salesforce of a software-as-a-service for customer relationship management (CRM), as CloudBees CEO Sacha Labourey said heise developer explained. Based on the collected and processed data, those responsible can understand whether the corporate goals associated with an application are sensibly selected and implemented, and whether the resources used are being used effectively.
