“Elden Ring”, “Wonderlands”, “Evil Dead”: Die Highlights des Summer Game Fests

Numerous game trailers were shown at the opening event of the Summer Game Fest, and some new announcements could also be seen in the live stream. These include “Tina Tina’s Wonderlands”, a spin-off of the “Borderlands” series by Gearbox. The highlight of the online event was clearly a first real trailer for “Elden Ring”, in which gameplay scenes could be seen for the first time. Heise online has compiled the most interesting games and trailers from the event.

“Elden Ring”

FromSoftware’s action RPG is one of the biggest games currently in development. The opening stream of the Summer Game Fest featured gameplay scenes for the first time from FromSoftware’s new work, which is being created in collaboration with George RR Martin. The video should meet the expectations of the fans: There are crazy opponent designs, huge bosses, breathtaking environments and a lot of drama.

“Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands”

“Borderlands” becomes “Wonderlands”: In this spin-off of the popular shooter series, developer Gearbox changes into a fantasy universe. Tiny Tina, known from “Borderlands”, plays a kind of dungeon master and thus drives the story forward. In terms of play, a lot seems to stick to the tried and tested concept of the “Borderlands” games, but this time with magic and dragons. Actors Andy Samberg, Will Arnett and Wanda Skyes give characters from the game the votes.

“Jurassic World Evolution 2”

Frontier Developments is working on a successor to the construction game “Jurassic World Evolution” from 2018. The studio made a name for itself above all with the titles “Planet Coaster” and “Planet Zoo” and is known for detailed and extensive construction games. For “Jurassic World Evolution 2” Frontier promises a new campaign, which will be set to music by actors from the “Jurassic World” film series. The title was presented by Jeff Goldblum at the Summer Game Fest. “Jurassic World Evolution 2” for PC and Xbox and Playstation consoles is expected to come onto the market at the end of 2021.

“Death Stranding Director’s Cut”

The game experiment “Death Stranding” by Hideo Kojima is being re-released as a “Director’s Cut” for the PS5. So far there is no information about what will change in the Director’s Cut for the new Sony console. The developers only promise that the original has been “expanded”.

“Salt and Sacrifice”

The indie studio Ska Studios has announced a sequel to its critically acclaimed Soulslike hit “Salt and Sanctuary”. Like part 1, “Salt and Sacrifice” is also played in 2D graphics, if desired in co-op mode. The title is to appear in 2022, at the Summer Game Fest only versions for the PS4 and PS5 were announced.

“Two-Point Campus”

The creators of the humorous hospital simulation “Tow-Point Hospital” let the players build a very chaotic university campus next. “Two-Point Campus” will be released in 2022 for PC, Xbox and Playstation consoles and the Nintendo Switch.

“The Anacrusis”

A kind of “Left 4 Dead” with aliens: “The Anacrusis” will be released temporarily exclusively on the PC and Xbox consoles. In a first-person perspective and pretty comic graphics, you shoot your way through the remnants of a stranded spaceship together with fellow soldiers.

“Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodhunt”

In the world of “Vampire: The Masquerade” the upcoming title of the developer studio Sharkmob takes place. “Vampire: Bloodhunt” will be a battle royale shooter and will start its alpha phase in July, with the release scheduled for later this year.

“House of Ashes”

The third part of the “Dark Pictures: Anthology” series will be released on October 22, 2021. This time it’s about soldiers who have to deal with underground vampire creatures. Like its two predecessors, “House of Ashes” by Supermassive Games will be an interactive thriller in which the main aim is to make the “right” decisions.

“The Planet of Lana”

One of the most beautiful trailers at the event comes from the indie studio Wishfully, which is developing a hand-drawn platform adventure called “Planet of Lana”. In its darkest moments, the trailer brings back memories of titles like “Limbo” and “Inside”. “Planet of Lana” is being developed exclusively for PC and Xbox.

“Lost Ark”

The online RPG “Lost Ark”, which is already available in Asia, will be coming to Europe in autumn 2021 – the game will be marketed by Amazon. The Free2Play game was completely localized and the texts were newly recorded in German.

“Payday 3”, “Painkiller 3” und “Kingdom Come: Deliverance”

Koch Media has presented its new publishing label Prime Matter. The first games to appear under the Prime Matter banner include Payday 3 and Painkiller 3. Prime Matter is also bringing the medieval role-playing game “Kingom Come: Deliverance” to the Nintendo Switch. The trailer also shows other titles that belong to the Prime Matter portfolio.

“Back 4 Blood”

The multiplayer shooter “Back 4 Blood” will go into beta this summer. To mark the occasion, publisher Warner Bros. has released a short gameplay trailer for the spiritual successor to “Left 4 Dead”. The game is being developed by ex-Valve employees who once worked on the iconic co-op shooter. The release is planned for October 12th.

“Evil Dead: The Game”

Even more zombie action: “Evil Dead: The Game” is being developed by Saber Interactive, the studio that recently worked on the switch port for “The Witcher 3” and the new edition of the first-person shooter “Crysis”. With “Evil Dead: The Game”, Saber Interactive is now creating something of its own again – the release is planned for 2021. The action game can be played both in cooperative mode and against each other.

The opening stream of the Summer Game Fest was hosted by Geoff Keighley, who also co-organized the event. The Summer Game Fest was launched last year as a replacement for the E3 that fell into the water and has now taken place for the second time – although E3 is taking place again this year, at least purely digitally. You could tell the show something: With the exception of “Elden Ring” there was largely a lack of the big blockbusters of the most important game studios. Many of them are apparently saving their flagship titles for the next few days. The Summer Game Fest will include further events and streams in the coming weeks, and the online game fair E3 will officially start on Saturday.
