Electric cars: Amazon buys 40 street scooters and 10 eVito

Deutsche Post has won Amazon as a customer for its electric transporter street scooter. Amazon ordered 40 copies of the Streetscooter Work Box version, said the Post subsidiary Streetscooter on Wednesday in Aachen.

At the Amazon distribution center in Munich-Daglfing, the electric vehicle manufacturer has already set up 60 charging stations and delivered vehicles.

As a mail order company, Amazon has long been a major customer of Deutsche Post, but has now also set up its own delivery service. In Munich, Amazon wants to use the street scooter fleet to supply customers on the last mile, it said.

"Amazon has committed to delivering on the Paris climate change commitments ten years before the target date of fulfillment – namely 2040 instead of 2050. We rely on partnerships with different partners who develop new technology and CO2-foster a neutral economy.

Against this background, Amazon also ordered electric delivery vans from Daimler, namely ten of the Mercedes-Benz eVito models. The battery capacity of 41 kWh ensures a range of 150 to 184 kilometers, as Daimler insures, The drive has an output of 85 kW and a torque of up to 295 Newton meters.

The Streetscooter Work has a peak output of 48 kW and a continuous output of 38 kW. The range is 80 km.
