In one interview with the Youtuber Marques MKBHD Brownlee, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates lists problems of electromobility – even though he has just bought his first electric car, a Porsche Taycan.
Gates said automakers were quick to switch to electric cars despite ongoing problems. He enjoyed driving the Porsche Taycan, but the range was still an obstacle.
"The amount of energy that is poured into the petrol tank per minute is somehow stunning"said Gates. "Gasoline has a very high energy density – 30 times higher than that of the current lithium battery."
The former Microsoft boss rated the maintenance costs for electric vehicles as lower. Nevertheless, insurance is expensive for many electric cars and the basic price is still higher than for vehicles with an internal combustion engine.
Porsche's Taycan Turbo S is the least efficient electric car, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The weaker Taycan Turbo comes second to last. The range of the Turbo S is given by the EPA as 309 km. The battery is 93 kWh.
