Estonia has introduced its own smartphone app to better track corona infections. The application called “Hoia“has been available for download since Thursday, as the government in Tallinn announced. With the app, available in Estonian, Russian and English, users in the EU country should be warned in good time if they have been in the vicinity of people with the Coronavirus infected.
The use of the app, which was developed in cooperation with health authorities and companies from the Estonian IT scene, is voluntary. For privacy and data protection reasons, the data on the contacts are not recorded centrally. Estonia, with a population of 1.3 million, has so far recorded 2,227 confirmed infections and 63 deaths related to the coronavirus.
