The city of Schwerin has agreed a rapid expansion with 5G with the Deutsche Telekom subsidiary Deutsche Funkturm. Badenschier and Deutsche Funkturm boss Bruno Jacobfeuerborn have signed a letter of intent to intensify and advance the expansion of a modern mobile radio infrastructure in Schwerin. Jacobfeuerborn explained: “The use of urban properties will help mobile communications expansion keep pace with customer needs.” With a new antenna location, it has taken about two years from the first planning to commissioning. Much of this time is spent looking for a suitable location.
Telekom has had 43 locations in Schwerin since this month. Four more are to be added by 2022. In addition, an extension with LTE is planned at one location. The LTE expansion is also important because all locations in the future 5G network will be used, explained Telekom on July 6, 2020.
