Finnish company HMD Global, announced that the first Android phones Nokia 5, Nokia 6 and Nokia 8 phones will continue to receive security updates for one more year. This move of HMD Global was interpreted as a very appropriate move compared to the companies that stopped updating their phones in a short time.
The first smartphone with the Android operating system, Nokia, was announced in February 2017 by HMD Global. The first series; It consisted of Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6. A few months later, the company announced the first flagship phone, the Nokia 8.
In the year of release of their phones, the company promised that their smartphones would receive regular security updates for two years. The company has exceeded this promise with its new decision. The first Android phones, called Nokia, will continue to receive security updates from quarterly to another year.
HMD Global added 1 year to its update promise:
Nokia 3 will be the first smartphone to receive quarterly security updates from September 2019 to September 2020. Nokia 5, Nokia 6 and Nokia 8 will receive quarterly security updates from October 2019 to October 2020.
In the US and India, the version of Nokia 6 sold in the Amazon will not be eligible to receive quarterly security updates after October 2019. In addition, HMD Global announced that Nokia 2 will stop receiving security updates in November 2019.
Most Android phone manufacturers promise that their devices will receive incoming security updates for two years. Consequently, it is necessary to congratulate HMD Global on this issue because they both kept their promises and went beyond their promises and provided support for another year.
Almost all Nokia phones launched by HMD Global are included in Google's Android One program. This will bring major operating system updates and security updates to the phones for three years.
