Pharmacies start with the issue of the digital vaccination certificate

Anyone who is completely vaccinated against the corona virus can be happy. From next Monday, when they present the yellow vaccination book in selected pharmacies, they will receive a free digital vaccination certificate that is secure and legally binding on their smartphone.

Nationwide, according to the Federal Association of German Pharmacists’ Associations (ABDA), pharmacies “close to home” should be able to offer this service, which is of great importance for holiday trips. ABDA spokesman Christian Splett emphasized that the pharmacists involved, as proven drug experts, are trained to recognize counterfeits. After all, they would have to check a hundred or more recipes for authenticity every day.

Via the web portal Vaccinated citizens should be able to find out which pharmacy can issue the German digital vaccination certificate CovPass from Monday, June 14th. Pharmacies that want to be included in this free service via the portal page and want to be listed should be able to register from Wednesday announced the ABDA. It is assumed that the number of pharmacies will quickly be in the four-digit range, according to Thomas Dittrich, chairman of the German Pharmacists’ Association (DAV).

So far, the pharmacy manager only lists those pharmacies that offer rapid tests. Via the ABDA association portal, the pharmacies are to be connected to the central IBM verification server, which is operated on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Health.

Many details of the upcoming service are still unclear. There is no information from the ministry as to how long the digital vaccination certificate is valid. After the RKI recommendations the validity period would have to be limited to 6 months, but there is also evidence such as the one in Israel, where the digital vaccination certificate is valid for 1 year.

It is also not clear when the system will be sent to the EU gateway for the Green Digital Certificate will be connected, with which the freedom of travel in Europe is to be ensured. But a start has been made for which the pharmacies are properly remunerated, as Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn recently emphasized.
