A few days after the announcement of Red Dead Redemption 2 for Windows PC, the development studio Rockstar Games has launched the presale and announced the system requirements. It is noticeable above all that the Wild West-based action game occupies about 150 GB on the hard disk or SSD.
For comparison: The current version (1.13) for the Playstation 4 is around 109 GB in size. Rockstar Games had announced at the first presentation of the PC version that there should be technical improvements, but no further details. The larger space requirement on PCs could be due to finer-resolution textures – but actually the program would need much more memory.
Minimal system requirements
- Windows 7 (64-bit)
- Intel Core i5-2500K or AMD FX-6300
- Nvidia Geforce GTX 770 (2 GB VRAM) or AMD Radeon R9 280 (3 GB VRAM)
- RAM 8 GB
Recommended system requirements
- Windows 10 (64-bit)
- Intel Core i7-4770K or AMD Ryzen 5 1500X
- Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 (6 GB RAM) or AMD Radeon RX 480 (4 GB VRAM)
- RAM 12 GB
The PC version also requires DirectX. Which version, says Rockstar Games not. Presumably, DirectX 11 is sufficient. It is also unclear whether an online connection has to exist permanently when playing. On the overview page it says "Internet connection and Rockstar Games Launcher required" – but whether the game contacts the servers only to start or even while playing the campaign, is currently unclear.
Players can download the PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2 currently just about the Rockstar Launcher Pre-order. Pre-booking offers the benefit of a free upgrade to the Premium Edition with a number of extras for the campaign: a so-called Outlaw Survival Kit, a horse, a treasure map and a money bonus. For Red Dead Online, there are 50 gold bars.
Beginning October 23, players can pre-order at the Epic Games Store, Humble Store, and a host of other portals – but, as far as we know, not on Steam. As a bonus, there are only 25 gold bars for Red Dead Online at the mentioned shops. In addition, Rockstar Games does not yet say when the game will appear there. Anything but a publication also on 5 November 2019 would be strange.
In December 2019, Red Dead Redemption 2 will also be released on Steam. Details and a specific date of the manufacturer does not yet. Already before – namely in November 2019 – the Westernepos should also appear as a start title for Stadia. Again, there is neither a specific date nor information on extras. Google's streaming service will start operating in the month.
