The highlights at Netflix, Disney + and Amazon Prime Video in August 2020

Tom Hardy likes to play cold, brutal club types. Rather unexpectedly, he shows in the Marvel-Movie Venomthat he also has the role of the shy and humble reporter Eddie Brock. This is, of course, only cautious until it unintentionally establishes a connection with the alien symbiote Venom. Eddie meets him when he is looking for evidence of scientific experiments on humans in the “Life Foundation” laboratory. Once Venom takes control of Eddie’s body, sheer chaos and Eddie find it difficult to control his own mind. At least one thing unites them both: the desire to turn off the lights of the Life Foundation. Venom will appear on Netflix from August 31, 2020.

A nameless poet (Javier Bardem) moves with his equally nameless wife (Jennifer Lawrence) to a remote country house so that he can calmly overcome his writer’s block. While he takes care of his work, she renovates the aging house and devotes herself to the housework. After some time of apparent normality, the woman is increasingly troubled by nightmares. When one day an unknown visitor (Ed Harris) and later his wife (Michelle Pfeiffer) stand at the door, the poet invites the strange couple to stay for a while. At some point, the sons of the visitors stand on the mat and the life of the two country house residents begins to take a dark turn. The whole horrific misery shows Netflix from August 1, 2020 in Mother!.

One day, professional killer Henry Brogan (Will Smith) has had enough of his job and decides to retire. Henry’s former boss Clay Verris (Clive Owen) doesn’t like this at all, which is why he quickly places an assassin on him. When it turns out that Henry’s pursuer is a clone of his, the deadly duel is already in full swing. Henry is supported in the fight against his artificial image by the agent Danny Zakarweski (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and his colleague Baron (Benedict Wong). When the clone begins to question its own existence and the intent of the mysterious Verris becomes the subject between the two duelists, it seems there is a way out of the deadly conflict. Gemini Man will join at August 13, 2020 Amazon Prime Video available.

The Chinese fantasy film Snow Girl and the Dark Crystal tells the story of anti-hero Zhong Kui (Kun Chen). Zhong Kui is a demon hunter who stole the Dark Crystal, which is essential for human survival, from Hell. With this action, he has drawn the displeasure of the demon king, who immediately sends the demon warrior Snow Girl (Bingbing Li) to bring back the crystal. When the two meet, however, fate does not show its warlike side at all. Snow Girl and the Dark Crystal is a typical Chinese fantasy production, whose charm lies mainly in the sometimes trashy story and the matching effects and animations. The fantasy film starts on August 9, 2020 at Amazon.

Is Artemis Fowl Disney’s Answer to that Harry Potter-Line? Probably not. Nevertheless, the film version of the eponymous book series by Eoin Colfer offers uncomplicated family entertainment. Artemis Fowl (Ferdia Shaw) is the 12-year-old son of a notorious Irish gangster family. Despite his small age, Artemis already has exceptional criminal skills that he is only too happy to use. When his family runs into financial difficulties, Artemis decides to kidnap Elf Holly Short (Lara McDonnell) to ransom money. However, this act results in a bitter struggle with the people of the elves. After all, Artemis has no choice but to work with Holly to save not just his missing father, but the whole world. Artemis Fowl will be available from August 14, 2020 Disney + to see.
